An interesting little 9-hole layout, with different--sometimes VERY different--tee boxes for each nine when playing 18 holes. Two holes switch from par 4 to par 5, depending on whether you're playing the front nine (white tees) or the back (blue). Local knowledge is definitely helpful; sometimes it's unclear where you're going--even from the middle of a fairway (e.g., no. 2)--when you're playing the course for the first time by yourself and even finding the alternative tee boxes can be iffy in a couple of spots, so wait and hook up with some locals, if you can. Some very unusual holes, especially number 2 which calls for a blind second shot from the fairway, and number 8 from the blue tees, where you feel like you're driving out onto a postage stamp. (It just feels that way; it's wider when you get out there.) Lotsa fun and nice people. They're in the middle of building a new clubhouse/proshop now--September 2002. I'll be back to play this one!

You will find two courses in one. The front is tree lined with multiple elevation changes. The back is a links course with generous landing areas but watch out for the shot that gets away. Tees to green were in immaculate shape. Its worth playing even if it is only once per year.

A beautiful course with two faces. The front nine is beautiful and laid back. The back nine is hilly and more difficult. You'll get some use out of your sand wedge on the back nine. Great Greens!

This is a very nice location with 45 holes in total - there are 27 at the "Valley" and another 18 at the Ridge. Carts are mandatory at the Ridge. We took the stay and play package and for 3 days/2 nights it offers good value (golf/breakfast/accomodation). Not sure what it will be like in the Fall since there are a lot of trees that will be dropping their leaves.

I love this course. It is unbelievable. I am a student and only pay $25 for a cart, a bucket of range balls, and a round of golf. This course is pretty challenging from the tips. The 14th hole is a 485 yard par-4 which is downhill but really challenging. The next hole is a 475 yard par-4 which requires a long tee shot up the hill and the approach is downhill. The next hole is a 465 yard par-4 with an uphill tee shot. Any of these holes would be signature holes on any other public course.

This is the worse course I have ever played. The greens are distroyed. The tee boxes and fairways are over grown and in desperate need of repair. In general need of repair. The course has been abandoned for a long time. I will personally never play there again.

Though the hole designs did not really remind me of the styles of the architects I am familiar with, this is a great track. Public courses should not be this nice. The black tees were a great test and the conditions are phenomenal. Tees, greens and fairways are near perfect.
Go play golf here.

The last time I played this course the first hole was a downhill par four of about 240 yards. Some of the greens are unrealistcally placed and at least one tee box demands a fade out of it in order to even find the fairway. It's not that far to other golf courses in the area. Unless you just absolutely have to play here, don't. TK

Who ever posted the previous reviews should be named employee of the year at Rosebrook. While not a terrible course, it definitely needs alot of work. Some areas of the fairway are so hard it is comparable to hitting off of a parking lot. The layout is pretty boring with a stretch of 4 holes (6-9) side by side without much for boundaries, pretty much like an open field. The greens, for the most part, are in decent shape. To be fair, they just recently expanded to 18 holes. Most of the problem lies with the new 9 holes. The old part of the course is much more pleasant to play, although they clumped together some par threes, (10-13 are par 3-4-3-3). As I said, it's not a terrible course, but I've played much better courses in a similar price range.

Just when you thought you had conquered the game along came Stone Crest. This eye-popper layout grabs your attention and keeps it throughout 18 completely different golf challenges. No two holes are the same. The fairways are generous enough with the threat of falling off the mountain to the right of them. The greens are firm and fast and yet receptive to holding shots from the fairway. Put this baby on your "Gotta Play" list. T.K.

Add this beauty to your "Gotta Play" list. TK

Lives up to high expectations set by sister course, Ballyowen. Not one hole out of 18 that wouldn't be the signature hole on most public tracks. Twilight rate makes it an affordable day of golf. If you are ever in Sussex County to play, this is the place to go. Bring some skills or you can make some double-bogeys.

The twilight rate of $30 with a cart is the best deal in South Jersey. This is a nice course, much better than other public courses in the similar price range. The course, and clubhouse, have a real Carolina feel to them. The course is not long, but plays very challenging if you are not straight off the tee. There is trees lining every hole on both sides. Miss fairways, and you'll be in for a long day. The greens are unique in their shape, and many are very undualating. It has a great practice green and bar/restaurant. The only drawback is that there is no driving range, and it is at least 20 miles from anywhere. If you haven't played there yet, give it a shot. It's definately a hidden gem.

The layout of the course if pretty nice and a little challenging which is the only highlight. From tee to green, the conditions were terrible. The tee box was uneven, fairways were full of divots, greens were not in any condition for putting. The greens were brown and some without any grass at all. Oh, bunkers were full of rocks and not much sand. One of the worst courses I've ever played and to make things worst they raised the green fee. $35. I wouldn't pay $10 to play this course.

This course just opened up and it is in incredible shape. It is only a 9-hole, par-3, but it proved to be very fun at the same time. There were lots of hazard elements to overcome. This made it a much more exciting golf course than your typical par-3.

Front nine plays tighter then back nine with woods that come into play. Number 10 hole is being repaired so they have put a flag and hole 100yds. closer to the tee box with a circle drawn around it(the only downfall right now).

The second 18 known as the South course is complete and operational. The ratings listed are for what is now known as the North course. The South course doesn't have yardage markers yet and is still growing. But, when mature will be just as nice as the North. If you are a Monmouth county resident, you should consider yourself very lucky to have these 36 holes added to an already impressive county course list. The price and lack of on-course beverage cart service is what separates this course from the upscale courses in the state. Much rather play here or Hominy than the many 100 plus per round courses, even if they were the same price. Other counties should learn from Monmouth county on how to run and maintain golf courses. They may not be up to Country Club or Private upscale Daily fee course conditions, but they are very close. Play this course and you will not be disappointed.

A gem in Southeast Alaska! I played it twice during my stay there, and shot HORRIBLY (versus what I normally shoot), but loved every minute of it! If you aren't straight off the tee, you're in for a long round. The woods and muskeg eat up EVERY ball that leaves the fairway. Add in a couple of creeks that wind their way through almost every hole, and you're in for a treat if you get a chance to play this course. The only drawback is the artificial-turf greens--you can't hit a "normal" approach shot, and have to bump-and-run (which isn't my game!). The greens also play VERY fast, even faster than most courses I've played in Hawaii & Arizona.

A great course for beginners and a few challenges for the experts. The nine holes consist of Par 3 and Par 4 holes.
Because the holes are shorter than average length, most of the shots are taken with high numbered irons. The more difficult holes have a narrow fairway layout that can decieve you into thinking its a little too easy. A great place for those with out alot of time for the full 18.

This is the best public course I've ever played. The layout is astounding with extreme challenges for all levels of talent and breathtaking views from some of the tee boxes (notably # 9 and 18). Shotmaking is at a premium on this course if you hit the wrong side of the fairway or green your chance of par could be gone in a breath. It may take a few rounds to shoot a low score because you need to think your way around the course, I've played 5 rounds and finally broke 82 and I'm a 12 handicap. Great food, service, clubhouse. If you're ever in or around Zainsville, Oh you must play this course.

A lot of work has been done this year and the course is in good shape. The greens are well kept for a public course. The wide open fairways makes it a fun course for the high handicapper but the rolling undulating greens make for a challange to lower hadicappers. The value is good but they could use a better food concession.

Played this course about two years ago in the summer and the greens were in excellent condition. Only thing I did not like was that you had to play a lot of short irons off the tee in order to set-up your second shot.

Here we go again. The front nine is still struggling to keep greens, GREEN. Mole Crickets are on a terror. Discounted fees due to conditions. The ground has cracks in it big enough to lose a ball in. We're suffering from severe drought. LOST the back 9 greens. Just re-sodded/planted with shredded Tiff Dwarf Bermuda sod. They're being watered several times daily to sprout'em out. Guess we'll see??? Looks like it'll be September before they'll be playable. Nothing around here will be playable if it doesn't rain soon!!!!! They're trying to recover, but NEED serious help from ABOVE, (Amen).

Some of the most beautiful vistas to be found on a golf course. You can almost get so absorbed by the scenery that you forget to hit the shot. The course keeps your attention and focus. It is absolutely a solid test of golf with tight fairways and hilly lies which put shotmaking at a premium. Plus it has the longest back nine in the state including a 720 yard par six. TK

An absolute must for any golfer coming to the Central Kentucky area. A hilly course with greens that invite you and dare you with the same breath. The fairways are lush and reward a well stroked tee shot. The par fours are anything but mundane with each one being different from the other. Bring some extra balls. You may need them. TK

Have yet to play this course and like it. The fairways are hard and allow for a lot of roll for tee shots but punish you if you even think about a fat shot from them. The greens are hard to read. Several of the holes are difficult simply because they are tricked up. Lots of better venues in Madison County than this. TK

Low marks on condition because of extremely grainy greens and sparse tee boxes. There's just too much competition right now for this course to charge what it does. Don't get me wrong; this is a wonderful and extremely challenging layout. They just need to work on the greens. I understand that they used to have bent (not practical in the Texas heat), but now they are bermuda. Maybe they should consider one of the newer hybrids that are so popular these days.

This is the course to play to work on your short game. A challenge to come close to par. You can finish in about 1.5 hrs if no one is ahead of you. Read the conditions. Greens will not hold unless after the rain. Great to play if time is an issue.

Unique links style course, offers challenges for all level of players. Interesting layout with many elevated tees and greens, plenty of sand, water comes into play on 2 extremely difficult holes from the tips. Only knock is that the condition of the fairways was far below average although greens seem to roll fine.

The course is not very challenging. Greens do not hold very well, players do not take care of greens/traps. It is basically a driving range that you can putt at. Course was packed 2-3 hole, green, fairway, and benches. Take a break and watch the planes fly overhead! Par 3's are all basically 140-150 yds. Par 4's are 300 yds, or less. Leave the driver at home!

Challenging course-the greens are medium to large and have shelves and sharp breaks. Most players will use all their clubs as the layout dictates postion, unless you can drive the ball 300+yards down the middle, then on most holes, it's a short iron into the green. The course itself is tree lined and has water that comes into play on several holes. It's quite scenic when you take the time to look. This is a good place to play.

Did this course catch a cold and never recover? It looks sick. Death is everywhere: greens, fairways, tee boxes, course pro is a dud as well. I just wonder why it costs $8 more than Chinook across town which is immaculate not to mention much more friendly. Very poor value at $30 for the area.

This is a great course for the buck. Pretty flat, but very long and lots and lots of hazards. Course tends to dry up in the summer even to the point where approach shots have a hard time holding up. Overall, I would say it is a great bargain and quite challenging to the amateur.

This course has some narrow fairways and difficult shots. With that in mind, quite often you are waiting for others to make it down the fairway/off the green - often the wait can be up to 10 - 15 minutes.
With the wait aside, it is a challenging course with lateral water hazards on almost all of the holes.
You have to try it at least two or three times before making a judgement. My first time I didn't care for the course much.

I played the course for the first time on 5/26/02. The layout is great, but you need to play it again to really understand the layout. The problem is there are too many blind shots (play it with someone who played it before). After that I think you will have a good time.

Contrary to the blurb on the description of this course, on windy days (prevailing south wind) only one hole plays with the wind. The others are crosswind or against the wind. The course is short, but the greens even things up. Some are elevated and others have quite a slope. The greens can be easily reached with good accuracy on your drives, but can also put you in terrible shape if not. The rough is very rough and the fairways are cut to to benefit accurate drivers, not long ones. Water can come into play on 7 of the 9 holes and the out of bounds stakes will snare you if you aren\'t careful. All in all it is a fun course to play and one you will think you are going to master until you count up the strokes at the end of 18 holes. Steve Mackey

Hope you like the sand because they spent about quarter of a million on sugar sand and the bunkers are plentiful. You will need lots of control shots to work the trees, bunkers, and natural landscape. Don't be afraid to leave the driver in the bag, lay up with a long iron off the tee and play smart. If you do you'll have a great time even if your score is a bit higher.

The Red Course is probably one of the best values in the whole DC area. $9 dollars for a course that has fairways facing the Washington Monument cannot be beat! I have walked a round in under one hour, which makes for the best after-work golf in town. The course is great for working on your short game and could even be played without your driver or long irons. The cousre is very well maintained and the occasional gaggle of geese makes for a great course within the Distirct lines.

Played it early in season and it was in best condition I've seen in years. 1st come 1st served off 1st tee, no reservation policy is good and bad. Usually hour+ wait on nice day. Front is fairly easy but holes increase with difficulty as you go. Back 9 gets tighter and longer. 14th hole on back is really nice long par 4.

This is a fun course to play for any level. There are interesting par 5's on the front and challenging holes on back. The course is hilly, (you will want to ride), fairways are narrow and if your are not true you will find the woods. The greens are in great shape, for that matter the fairways are too. I recommend this very highly, it is a must to play.

Beatifully kept public course. Hard to get tee time since it is a real bargin if you are local. Course kept excellent for all the play it gets. Some long and hard holes with lots narrow tree lined fairways. If that is not enough there is a fair amount of water to make you think. Not the hardest but challenging and in spots very pretty.

A short course that unlike most executive courses is not boring or has only very short holes. There is wetland to add to the challenge of elevated greens and rolling fairways. If you want a short course that is like a fullsized but for length this is it. It is excellently kept as well.

This is a good course for our family. It's a little bit on the short side for me, but my wife, a beginner, enjoys it and is finally starting to play regularly. It's a good course for our two teenagers too.

Goat Ranch if I ever did see one. Greens were dead, fairways butchered, Tee boxes a joke. Nice layout and some nice holes but the course is an eye sore when it comes to the turf. Went across town to Chinook, much better shape but needed some signage.

This course offers a challenge. It is a par 64, but you do get the opportunity to hit every club in your bag. Very nice layout. Excellant course for the beginner or average golfer. Good course for all others to work on their iron play. Greens are designed with no straight in putts. Very Challenging

Even though the fairways can be a little rough,....the greens are in excellent condition...except one.
The course is challenging...many doglegs an water to hit around and over. One minute your hitting on a nice flat surface...the next your hitting from on top of a hill.
Highy reccommend that you get a cart...unless you really want to give your legs a workout. Green fees are $34.00 for weekends,.....well worth the price....since you dont get bored on this course.

This course is a lot of fun, especially the downhill 10th, from 165 yards, it drops about 75-100 feet with a pond directly behind the green. Great mix of short 100-125 yard holes and 165-200 yard holes. Great test for the short game.

Great, fun course for a beginner (or a lousy golfer like myself)! Hole 4 is fun, because the objective is to put it IN the creek from the tee (free relief if you do). Hole 5 is a real killer, because it's 420 yards but the hole is elevated at least 30 feet above the tee, so it's more like shooting 500 yards. Still a par 4 hole, though.

The clubhouse is a dump. The first three holes lull you into a false sense of security (they're all 100 yards or less, par 3's), and then ambush you with the more challenging holes.
The 4th hole tees off over a small water hazard, to a hidden green. The fifth hole is a short uphill iron to another hidden and VERY challenging green. The sixth hole is the longest on the course and will make you bring out your driver. Seven is a nightmare and you really only get one putt due to the steep incline of the green. Eight is a par 3 with tough bunker positioning, and Nine is only remarkable in that it is tight on the right side (thick treeline) and the green is unforgiving on the back side (butting up against the water hazard from Hole #4).
This course is pretty challenging for the beginner, and allows an all-club game, much more so than you would expect from a 9 hole almost par 3 course.
Bear in mind that I'm still a lousy player, so your mileage may vary dramatically.

This course could be much better than it is. There was a bit of standing water on the fairways and most of the fairways were overwatered and marshy. The course also is not very green, probably because all the plant life is drowning. The greens were slow but in better condition than the rest of the course. The layout is pretty good, however, and the view of Bear Mtn. so close is pretty impressive. I just wish there was some solid ground in the fairways. It would have made for a better day (and score).

I live in Raleigh and this is my FAVORITE course in the RDU area. Superb fast bent greens, challenging, very well laid out for walking- don't drive, the cart paths make you walk furthet than if you walked in the first place. Just a great course!

Trailer for a club house, but don't be fooled, this is an awesome course. The greens are bent, fast and hilly. A lot of waste area, so hit the ball where the course tells you to. One of my favorites in Pinehurst area.

Well maintained municipal course. It's a mature course with lots of big trees, just enough bunkers to satisfy those that like the challenge of having to target your shots. Great for walking in hot weather because of the shade from the trees.

Don't play this course if it's real windy. Like the course description implies this course requires precision.
It's only 9 holes, but play it twice from different tee boxes and you'll have a great time.

Don't slice your tee shot, especially on the first hole. #1 is one of the only holes that you can see the green from the tee box, but you'll be across the highway if you slice your tee shot and in the trees if you hook.

This course is now sometimes called Creekside. This is one of the best courses in Georgia for the money. It is in outstanding shape for any price, but particularly for a course that costs less than 50 bucks. It has some wackiness, and I would argue that the "signature" hole (representative of the wackiness) is the 11th; where you hit 4-iron from the tee due to a short fairway, and 3 wood to the green over a swamp. Annoying, but not a dealbreaker, and last time I played there, it looked like they were about to extend the fairway so you could at least hit 3-wood from the tee. The 18th is a great hole, but you must hit long to go for it in two, or be able to drop a long iron on a dime and stop it like a wedge. That green is unforgiving. If you are in the area of Marietta, Acworth, Douglasville, it is well worth your while, and the few sheckels that you will pay in green fees.

This is now an 18 hole course - fair but not for the faint of heart - course demands accurate tee shots, greens are tough to hold, are quick and subtle. The comparative short length is deceiving - the slope and rating are true championship - make a good score here and you can play anywhere.

I have played this course many times over the past 30 years while visiting a relative. It has a very straight forward design and is a long course. All four par 4's are challenging distance wise -- but straight, mostly straight as an arrow. The two par 3's are trickier than they look, although a scratch golfer would probably eat them up. The par 5 9th hole is VERY LONG and easily the most challenging hole on the course. Eat your wheaties before teeing up on this one. A fun, mildly challenging course. Worth a drive (pun intended).

Nice little Par 3 to practice your short iron game on. You will not need more than a 6 iron to play. Very challenging small greens, water all the way down 3 of first 4 holes. Lighted at night for night play. 3 story driving range, matts and grass available.

Great course to play if you want to get in a quick nine during the week, a little crowded on the weekend. Not very challenging but it is a good place to play for practice. Very easy to walk, Greens are OK, some tee boxes are very bad. No driving range.

Evergreen is a very nice course -- well kept and challenging for the average golfer. The fairways are imaculate and the greens run fast. There are plenty of soft-sand bunkers and water comes into play on 3 holes. The only complaint I have is the pace of play on the course. It is often crowded -- and one night I waited almost a half an hour to tee-off to the FOURTH hole. If you use a cart, check for rules at the club house. The marshall is VERY particular about where they can go (I got yelled at once) and the rules change as the season progresses.

If its your first time here, prepare to go "Hmm, where's the next hole?" Aside from no post showing which hole you're heading to. Its fairly nice with water comeing in to play on the 8th and 9th hole. The greens are pretty nice and fairly large. If you haven't been, well I'd say give it a try. Weekday cost was $7.00 when I went.

The course was in the most poor shape I have ever seen any course. The layout was fair yet challenging. The pace of play was difficult to judge... It was slow at times, but it should have been speedy because the course was more or less empty. I would not advise one to go here unless you are simply looking for a really cheap round of golf.

A challenging course that is fun to play for all handicap golfers. Not extremely long. Greens are nice and roll true. This is a great course to work on your short game. Only a few holes require a wood off the tee (I use a 4 wood on the longest). The layout of the course is a bit confusing the first time out. Upkeep could be better -- although the greens are in pretty good shape. I have never found it busy. Play 18 holes in 3 hours.

This is a great walking course (no carts allowed.), and a great value. The fairways and greens are always in excellent condition. It's a short course - only 4010 yards from the men's tees, which provides a great opportunity to work on the long irons. The layout winds through various housing tracts and lots of mature vegetation. An enjoyable course for any skill level.

You can swing freely on most drives. #4 is a hole where your drive must be on the money if you plan to have a shot on the nice dog leg left. If you're lucky you may see a couple of the local hawks that call the course their home. If you think it's too easy, try the blues!

This is a very challenging course that plays a lot tougher than the yardage would indicate. There are several tight fairways, and the 200 yard over the water tee shot on #3 has got to be the most challenging thing I have ever seen. On top of all that, the clubhouse and maitenance staff are second to none!

For the small price of the green fees there, you will more than get your money's worth. The fairways and greens are a little slower than usuall, but the course is quite playable and challenging. One hint: the course is built on the side of a hill, so all putts that appear to be straight in will break toward town. Just look for the elevators.

Not overly long or wooded, there is quite a bit of water that comes into play. Most fairways are rather generous in their landing areas for the average golfer although the big hitter can run a risk on several holes. The bustle of Interstate 71 can cause some problems as it borders a few of the holes and makes for a noisy shot when trying to concentrate. The greens are relatively easy to read with some undulations and grain breaks that can be tricky.

The best deal in Ontario, championship feel and the greens are hard, fast and large. Sand is very playable. Course is set for placement shots , distance is not a advantage. This is a short course that is usually in pretty fair shape. The course is noisy due to a freeway running through the middle of the course. The only par 5 is an insult to golf. It is a dogleg that you must use mid iron off the tee, a fairway wood over a small pond and a long iron or fairway wood to the green. Of the first 5 holes, 3 are par threes and back up play on busy days.

time of the year the best time is in the
summer when the greens are fast and true
and the fairways plush.

The front and back nines are totally different. The front nine has much more elevation change with plenty of out of bounds to the right. The back nine is more of a links style course. It has little elevation change with most of its out of bounds to the left.

This is Arnold Palmer's new course in the area. An absolutely breathtaking layout that is surprisingly playable from all the tees. Shot placement is a premium and accuracy to the greens is a must. The greens are immaculate and the fairways very generous in the short landing zones. Longer hitters take a risk. An absolute must play course.

A par three course with a couple of interesting holes but that's about it. The fairways get shaggy and the greens play inconsistently due to maintenance. If you're looking for somewhere to swing a stick in this area, look elsewhere.

This course throttles me every time I play it. (I'm a 6 handicap and long off the tee) It's not long but it has its share of in jail lies. The greens are like hitting to postage stamps compared with other courses in the area. A very fair test of golf for players of all levels.

In a word...WOW!!! Tremendous layout that enthralls you from the first shot. Brethtaking views from almost every tee, while playing a course that is well laid out, well maintained and as challenging as they come. If you're within five hours of Oak Ridge, you have to play this one.

Greens were very soft which contributed to the large number of ball marks on the par 3's. Given the fact that it gets a lot of play, this course was in good condition. Pace of play amounted to about 4 hours for a fivesome. Most challenging hole for this high handicapper was the #9 par 5. It has a nice wide fairway, but not wide enough for me, and the pen placement at the time made it challenging to read the break accurately. Pen placement on the #8 par 3 was just as challenging - back right corner with multiple break lines. All in all, an easy and fun course to play.

Tired of boring executive courses? This is not your typical par three. A top quality course from the word go, this course offers the shotmaker the chance to experiment with several options on the par fours. A great "gamblers" course if you like to take chances on your shots. Always well maintained.

If you just have to have some place to play I guess this would satisfy you. Not a good layout at all. Shot variety is almost non-existent. You're tired of the course after the first three holes. A par three course that would make a great park.

Accuracy is the key to playing this tough little gem of a course. Probably some of the best greens not found at a course that thinks too highly of itself. This course offers rewards for well stroked shots and punishment for straying from the straight and narrow. An excellent test of golf.

This is a great course if you are a mid to high handicapper. It is fairly wide open but has some areas of rough that are tangly. The fairways are very hard and give the golfer some extra roll on tee shots. The greens are decent though not spectacular. Good place to spend some time playing golf.

Pleasant but not terribly interesting course. Well-maintained but not in the "resort quality" category. A good value compared with so many other overpriced Arizona courses in winter time. A bit of water to contend with, but fairways are generous and greens are large and of good quality. Flat and easy to walk.

This course is fun if you're planning on playing with a few buddies, downing a couple of beers, and just messing around. The course is in poor shape (you'll hit off a mat on several holes), but the worst part about this course is the imbeciles who frequent it. If you walk on, plan on teaming up with hacks who not only can't play golf, but fail to observe the most basic rules of golf etiquette.

You get what you pay for but how can you beat the price? The greens are in decent condition, the layout simple with only two par 4 holes and a creek (flood control channel) that comes into play on almost every hole. Holes 8 and 9 are from elevated tees, #8 shooting over the "creek."

Bring your lawnmower because they don't seem to own one. Unless you hit the green, you're in the rough. There's no difference between the fairway and the rough. I suggest taking two or three shots off the tee. If you don't hit the green, pick up your balls (if you can find them), drop one on the green and putt from there. I'm not kidding on this one.

Simple 9 hole par 36. Conditions vary by season. A couple of deceptively long holes, a few doglegs, water, and, of course, a nearby dairy farm...
Still, it's definitely worth the money.

This course is a very good course for the price. They are in the process of building a new nine holes (for 27 total, not counting the par 3 course). They are targeting spring or early summer 2002 for the opening of the new 9. I believe that with the new 9 this will be a excellent course for beginner and low handicap golfer alike!

If you read my other post, understand that the course was in poor repair and the PGA Pro, turned greenskeeper is doing his best to improve things.
This is a Navy base southeast of New Orleans, proper. All but one of the greens is elevated. Play can be slow with golfers searching the woods for mishit tee shots on the back nine.
The greens are finally at there "winter green" condition (rye). Putting fairly true (would be better if the players would take time to repair pitch marks, but that seems to be an endemic problem in south). Mole Crickets are another issue that flare up from time-to-time.
ONLY 1 PROBLEM, unless you a military member or on a "pre-approved" list, you won't be allowed onto the base (lots of well-armed sailors), thanks to bin Laden and company.
Driving range has good grass, no sand to practice from. Has 2 putting greens to chip and putt.
Folks are very friendly at the Pro Shop, but the snack bar is unpredictable (don't come here with hopes of a hot meal, cause you never know IF & when they'll be open to serve you).
Things may change as far as the layout. The original 9 (front 9) are being consumed by a new USMC building. They should start work on clearing the woods and reworking the course so that both nines will be wooded and on the same side of the road. Time will tell? I figure 2-3 years for the complete make-over. Government job, you know!
Hosts the NAS Men's Golf Association. You're invited to join us. Liesurely competition with tourneys ususally the last Saturday of the month. $20-$25 dollars includes cart, green fees and tournament cash. Annual wing-ding in October with 2-day tourney and gut busting steak BBQ meal.
Hit'em straight!

This course belongs in the same category as Black Forest and Dunmaglas as being the hardest courses you will ever play. I played this course from the chmpionship tee and earned every good shot and score throughout the round. Nothing came easy. My score of 84 was hard fought and hard won. There are many fine holes here and it will get a second play from me. I don't recommend this course to a high handicapper unless the said golfer can control his/her ego and will play from the appropriate tees. Study the card and choose your clubs wisely and you may do well.

Course is not constantly maintained, but is adequate. Very challenging, especdially the par-3's. Sloping fairways, guarded by numerous pine tree's that will force you to be accurate on your drives and will really test your course management. Course also has a nice balance of sand traps and water hazards. They have a brand new fleet of golf carts, a nice pro shop. You don't have to wear collars, and they have weekly tournaments. The monthly price is $40.00 with a $100 initiation fee. Best deal in Hattiesburg!

Overpriced, unless you have a coupon (2for1). Great conditions (11/01). This is a memorable golf course. You should play it at least once. It's a great design, you'll use every club in the bag. Only drawbacks are the price, the pace, and the proshop staff. They aren't very warm or welcoming, something you expect when your dropping 75 on a round.

This course has been lengthened since the description was written. New holes were added, some old ones lengthened. Par is now 70, with 6 par 3 holes. The new layout is better than before, and requires shot-placing skills on many holes. New yardage is 6013 from blue markers, 5546 from whites, 4605 from red. A set of gold tees has been added at 5088 yds.

If for no other reason than to play the long par 5 (630 yards...closes one of the nines)as a test of your manhood, you need to play this course. Sneaky tough is the best way to describe it with hilly fairways and par threes that you'll swear are not that long until you try to hit them. The greens can be a bit choppy at times (receives heavy play) but are still firm and reasonably easy to read. One of Lexington muni courses and a good value.

Perhaps everybody ought to play this course if just to give them a greater appreciation of their own home course. The layout is way too hilly, only nine holes and has greens that are simple too penal. They are hard and as fast as concrete. The ninth hole is a par 5 of 437 yards that demands a mid iron shot over trees off the tee. Try it once...just once.

Long par 3, one hole is 210 from tee. Average pace, a lot of casual golfers. But greens are well kept and at 13 bucks a pop one heck of a good value. A nice course to play when winter greens fees get high in the valley.

Great course! Water is in play on 9 holes and must be carried 5 times. Flags are well protected by bunkers and water, making the course challenging. But wide fairways make it a "grip and rip" kind of course. Great fun! A well kept course.
One word of caution-If you rent a cart, make sure it has good power when you leave. For some reason I have seen and experienced my fair share of dead carts at that course.

My favorite "everyday" or midscale type course in the Philly area, good value @ $52 Weekend. ride. Shortish, targety, and tight, big hitters will hate it. Lots of elevation changes, nice bunkering. Core maintenance is very good, peripheral is not bad, a few dirt patches but generally in good shape. Don't walk it. Toughest par 4 is #6, short drive across ravine to tight sloped landing area, approach must carry bunker to 2 tiered green. Great finish with #17, a great little severe downhill par 3, and #18 signature tight, creek-lined par 5 finish. On Summer Saturdays, expect to play #18 under the watchfull eye of a wedding crowd on the deck of the new clubhouse, the closest you'll ever come to a stadium course gallery. Pro shop and starters can be a pain in the ass, but have been more tolerable in the last year or so. Rating: 7.75
Best Bar nearby: Decent little bar at the clubhouse with hotdogs, cold beer, and TV.
Also, since this is the closest non-dogtrack to the city, when in Center City Philly, Joby recommends for boozing:
For gentlemen's clubs, Joby's Best Of Philly is hands down, Cheerleaders on Front St near Oregon Ave, good talent, and the best $20 couch dance you'll ever experience. Delilah's, 100 Spring Garden, near Columbus (aka Delaware) Ave, has a bigger rep and better advertising, but it's a distant second. Good talent, tamer $10 couch dances, but drinks are pricey.
For more standard pubs, try McGillin's, 1310 Drury Lane (near Broad & Chestnut, behind Lord & Taylor Dept. store), tough-to-find back alley old school ale house dating back to the 1800's, gets crowded early. Actors from the nearby theater district are known to duck in the back door between acts for a belt. Karaoke Saturday nights are fun. OR, Dirty Frank's, 347 S. 13th St, the original quintessential dive bar with an unmarked door, you'll see suits next to bikers next to art students next to Yuppies, be prepared to do some serious swilling, and you can buy the artwork right off the walls. OR, Shampoo, alley between 7th & 8th near Callowhill, ultra-modern multi-level warehouse club, hot DJs, beautiful people, freaks, 6 foot transvestites. Be someone else here. OR, Continental Lounge, Market St, Olde City, named one of the 50 coolest bars in America by Playboy, quintessential martini bar in an old silver diner, beautiful people with a 60's retro-futuristic vibe. OR, Bar Noir, 18th St, tiny basement bar with noir movie decor, elbow to elbow big city eclectic crowd, good tunes, occasional celebrity sightings, it's the late night hotspot.
For grub, Joby recommends: For the classic Philly cheesesteak the way it was meant to be, try Geno's or Pat's, both near 9th & Passyunk, get it with Cheeze Whiz. OR Devon, 18th St on Rittenhouse Square, upscale, great seafood, thorough menu, best crabcakes in Philly, darkwood and tile decor, solid staff, open air bar and sidewalk tables all summer. Also try Blue or Rouge on either side of Devon. OR, San Marzano, Walnut St near 16th, affordable italian with limited but reasonable menu of awesome individual pizzas (try the Cajun), salads, and pastas, live Jazz during dinner. OR, City Garden, 18th & JFK, not in Chinatown but the best Chinese in the city. OR, Tre Scalini, 155 S. 11th St, South Philly, tops of this famous Italian section of the city, great homemade italian dishes in homey setting, BYOB keeps the check reasonable. OR, Tangerine, Market St, low tables with cushion seats and draped tapestry background, the hot restaurant for the beautiful people. OR, DiNardo's Famous Crabs, 312 Race St, fresh steamed crabs all year round, flown in daily, and their secret "crab vinegar" dipping sauce is what sets these apart from the average crab.

Small but well maintained grees. The fairways are a little bit rough and patchy in places though. Good value for money. Play can be slow due to the number of 'weekend hackers' on the course looking for lost balls in the trees which line almost every hole.

A good little Executive 9 (7 par-3's and two par-4's). The greens and fairways are well maintained, and the staff takes thier course seriously. A couple really short holes (less that 100 yds) are a bit of a joke, though.

A good way to kill 2 hours, there's not much else to say good about the course. It's literally a large backyard with mounds (greens) that have holes in them to hold the flagsticks. However it's very cheap and if you're a beginner, there's practically no trouble, so it's good practice before you play on a real course.

Very boring design. It is on a very flat piece of land and there is very little variety from one hole to another. It is an extremely easy course to play with almost no hazards or trees. However, the greens fees are reasonable and it wasn't too crowded. Unfortunately, there is not one exciting hole, or shot, on the entire course.

I played this course several days ago and I have to say that it was possibly the worst experience I've had in a LONG time. It was equivalent to playing golf in an unmowed vacant lot. The teeboxes, if you could call them that, were uncut and overgrown with tall grass, the fairways were in horrible condition, and the greens were patchy and hard. I personally am never going to play this course again and I recommend that you all do the same.

Spending over $20 for a 9 hole course whose fairways are in the condition they are is not good value. I would much rather spend an extra $15-20 to play 18 holes with better course conditions. There is one redeeming aspect to this course, though. The greens are often sloped enough to make reading them a challenge. The staff is also friendly. I agree that finding a spot without advance reservations is VERY difficult.

A great little executive 18 holer. Very pretty and quite challenging, despite the sort yardage. Accurate iron play is a must to score well. Seveal homes have evil bukers waiting to trap the errant drive.

Course is actually somewhat hilly - especially the back nine. Not a course to walk (will cause slow play and it is quite long between some holes). Very nice after a day or two after a good soaking rain. Greens are rock hard most of the time due to Illinois clay. Fairways are mostly tree lined as this course winds through a development. Requires straight-shooting on almost every hole. Some greens have fans around them to cool the air as the summers can be quite stagnant and humid.

Nice course for the whole family. A couple of narrow fairways but no water hazards although you will find a few bunkers. Keep an eye out on the ninth hole because a lot stray balls come from the driving range. A lot of beginners are on this course so be patient and expect some waiting.

Not a bad track. The bunkers are filled with very coarse sand and turn to hard mud when wet. A couple of holes have trees in the centres of the fairway that penalize a decent shot down the middle. Easy to get on the course if you happen to be in the area - call and they can likely fit in a single or a twosome at most times.

The greens on the back are GONE! Algae has taken over. Greens on the front are very rough and heavily top-dressed. Additionally, the front greens have large areas that are also perishing.
Treatment is being done to kill the algae on the back, but it'll be @ least 30-45 days or more before there's enough grass grown back on them to actually call them GREENS {;(
P.S. Read my e-mail about this course. Your description is very out-of-date and if there are LARGE greens here, come and show ME!
Thanks

This is one of the best kept secrets on Long Island.A true links-style course. Wind is always a factor. The greens are in excellent shape and roll true. Water comes into play on more than 5 holes including the signature par 5 16th where you must go over water twice. The front nine is easier than the back where many good rounds have gone bad at this course's version of amen corner beginning at the par 3 15th. If you get a chance to play this course do it. You won't be sorry. The only complaint I have is that the parking lot is too small. But they do offer valet service if you're so inclined.

A short course that gets boring. Little variety in shots. Greens tend to be hard but slow. The pace of play is like a snail and service leaves much to be desired.

Practice your low straight drives because the wind plays havoc on balls hit high. Amazing course with challenging par 3s and par 5s. Once the new clubhouse is open later fall 2001, this will be a place to play!

A great place to golf. If you want glitz and glamour, a place to eat and grab a beer with decent service, this isn't the place. However, the food is pretty good once the bartender/chef/hostess is done smoking outside and chatting with all the regular losers who always seem to be there when I go. Just go for the awesome greens and nice layout and enjoy a relaxing day of golf.

Although this course has some very beautiful views, for $51.00 (including cart) I would expect the greens to be free of weeds and to roll more true. The fairways, however, were in good condition as of 5/2001.

As long as you have 5 hours, this course isn't bad for a municaple course. The proshop is full of know-it-all twits, but the rangers are great. Greens and traps are the best I've seen there in years.

the front 9 is pretty wide open and is very hard to get into trouble. it does however have a challenging par 4 if your not long of the tee. #6 is is fairly straight but it is 479 yards away ranking the hardest hole on the course.
the back 9 is a different story, if your not acurate with your shots there are some hazards that can jump up and bite you.
all in all this is a good course and the just lengthened the course by a few hundred yards and spent a few million in course renavation and a brand new irrigation system.
|
|

Not a very long course. If you like wide open flat courses, then this course is not for you. The fairways, greens and tees are in pretty good shape, the rough can use more grass on some of the holes. The 3 par 5's are doglegs and club selection and acuracy are important on all three. Overall, the course has a nice layout and is a bargain even at non-resident rates.

The actual rates for 18 with cart are 16 midweek and 21 weekend but that's still a great deal. This is a short course that is great for learning the game and if you're playing solo you may be asked to join a group halfway through. I started playing about a month ago and I play this course every chance I get. The back nine starts off with three easy pars that can really boost a novice player's ego!

Great course and great value at $29 per round. Can be quite a drive if you don't live on the west side, but well worth the mileage visually. The easy holes are tempered by very difficult ones, so take advantage of the shorter par fours. Watchout for #6. Short par 5 that's reachable in two, but the #1 handicap hole with tractor beam water along the right side.

Great place to learn. Not much fun if you know how to golf. The course is very forgiving 9-hole layout. Most golfers are beginners, and they tend to play on any fairway (Except their own). If you want to learn, this is a great place because not many golfers there care about bad play. Only tip...bring your hard hat.

This is a great course to catch 9 holes after work or if you dont have a lot of time. But sometimes everybody is thinking that and play can get slow in summer. You also catch a few beginners starting out here which can slow you down a little too. The layout is not the best, a lot of big hills and not long, but for a 9 hole course they usually keep it in really good condition. It is not expesive to play here either.

The course would be fun if i could play it but it is to much money and they need to lower the price. I comment on how good the course looks and i just wish they would lower the price a bit! If someone reads this from thankgiving point take the price into consideration you have got to be making a killing with that price but only the rich can play lower just a bit so that the poorer could play a round of two please!!!!

I was a little worried about paying $190 to play a round in March, but the layout was worth every penny! Elevation changes really make for some beautiful tee shots. Design of small greens on reachable par 5's and large greens on long par 3's and 4's was well done and added some challenge and foregiveness. Watch out for club selection with downhill tee shots and uphill approaches to greens.

Visually a pretty course with lots of water, young trees which rarely come into play. My knock on the course are the young fairways with lots of gaps so if you don't "bump" you may get some tough lies. And, the greens are tricked up with lots of terraces and valleys. A pin placement on a ridge can easily lead to a 4 or 5 putt. It is a public course ... and a little expensive for a public course. Nice facilities, and depending who you get at the counte,r service can range from friendly/fine to abrupt/sour. The Par 3s are exceptionally nice holes and are what I look forward to playing. Rough is legitimate tough ... try not to go there.

rosebrook is a great course in a great little beach resort town on lake erie. we found it right at exit 58 of the nys thruway and enjoyed the layout and staff friendlyness. the 15th hole was very challenging. the 12 th par 5 and 13th par 3 are very beautiful back to back layouts.the fast greens were the hilite though.after golf we went to surfers beach club on the lake for great food and cocktails.rosebrook is the best kept secret in western new york.

great course for the advanced golfer. not enough make up par 5's and par 3's though. very difficult long par 4's. if your game is not up to snuff it will eat you alive. lots of side hill lies and wierd landing areas. a short straight hitter has no chance against the long ball players.conditions went down hill in 2000 with the loss of the top rated greens keeper in the area.members treat outsiders very rudely though and is not very a friendly
place for a woman to play. club house staff was very friendly though.

small course but lots of fun. location in angola on the lake makes it worth the ride.lots to do after golf with many parks, beach bars and eateries. staff is very friendly and cost is almost to cheap. it is not a par three but it is short. great part is you can play it in 90 minutes and still get to play a couple woods and long irons. trees on a couple of holes need major trimming though. fun place.

great place .you will need all the clubs in the bag. beutiful setting in chautauqua wine country. fast greens for public course. 5 par fives and 4 great par 3 holes. also a nice mix of driveable par 4's and tough par 4's. the price was right too.

Not a good course for begginers but I play it anyway. Narrow, slopeing fairways heavily lined with old growth trees and fast small greens. Most likely the best public course Somerset county has. Just bring an extra sleeve or 2 of balls if you tend to slice or hook.

Bring your whole bag of shots to play RC West. It's a fun course, tight in some places, open in others, with some drives and approaches requiring shots over the meandering creek that winds through the property. The green fees are kind of steep, though that is to be expected in the Monterey/Carmel/Pebble area. If you can't afford the big boys down here (Pebble, Spyglass, etc.) give RC West a try for a relaxing round that rewards good shotmaking.

Links design which was easy yet fun to play. The layout required tons of earth to be moved to great dunes/hills (full of wild grass but rarely in play). The toughest holes are 1, 17 and 18. Always check for sprinkler head yardage markers. Nice way to start a golf trip - you will not be tasked too much.

While most snub courses like these, Jans is a jewel in the crown of this sport. The tightness of the course, especially #2, is like nothing you have ever seen. If played at the right time of the year, it can be very tranquil and lovely while a major challenge. The greens are tiny and the beauty of the course is major. Great place to bring the kids. It\'s in the hole!

The price is actually $5.00 dollars to play. Best deal in town. The best time to start is the morning, before the crowd comes in to play. It's a very popular course amongst the young ppl population here in town. Often gets backed-up when 4-somes are playing. The course is managed by hidden cameras installed throughout the course. I feel that the owner is quite paranoia and can be anal at times.

Varsity golf course. Beautiful layout that will require great shots from every club in your bag, from both sets of tees. The contour and speed of the greens make them some of the most challenging in the state.
Our group of 8 to 10 players are all single-digit handicappers. We always walk off the 18th green drained and whooped, but knowing we just completed 4.5 hrs of golf the way it was meant to be - mentally and physically demanding.
Classic course. Walking is promoted and encouraged, and caddies are available with advanced notice. Worth the trip.

Best public course for 50 miles around? The layout is marvelous. Great maintenence, friendly staff, and a challenging test of golf make this place special. Expensive but worth it. I've yet to play Scotland but with a little drizzle and the wind kicking up, you'd swear you could hear bagpipes. Pace of play can get very slow sometimes.

This course is a great course to learn on. Can get very busy on the weekends, but nearly empty in the evenings. Watch out for tournaments on the weekends as well. The course itself is short, but engaging. Good mix of holes, but the par 4 9th is way too short (used to be a par 3).

This is a very friendly golf course. It's easy to walk if you wish due to the layout being somewhat compact. I love the *senior* tees which lots of courses don't have. The course has enough of a challenge to make you work, yet not so much of a challenge that you need to be a scratch golfer to enjoy it. I drive the 45 miles almost weekly just to play this course and gave always had a good time.
Please call for directions as it is tucked away and almost impossible to find without directions. ENJOY!

Short nine hole, large mature trees towards center of course and creek running across center of course comes into play on 5 holes. Houses around perimeter on right all around. Fareways are in good shape greens are average. Very good place to work on the short game or go for a quick round of nine. Greens are good to poor depending on weather. Better play in cool weather.

This past summer (2000) took it toll on some of those tall, beautiful pines, but they still love to play with you! Just keep out of the forest, and you will love playing the course. Very well maintained, and tough for a 9 hole course. Joining the club is the best value I have found. Call them up and ask them about it. I have been a member for just about a year now, and enjoy it very much. Oh, and if you are into skydiving, that airport mentioned has a skydiving club. That is not part of the country club, but it is fun to watch those crazy people jump out overhead!

I've played her all year and is the best course to play at to develp your skills. With narrow fairways and very fast and small greens. One of the better courses in the sandhills offers a sound test of your golf skills, lots of hazards, and tough greens.

a par 3 9-hole course layed for the beginner in mind. The course has been well thought out.The course also provides play under the lights, so you can get in those extra holes of play.Course amminties are driving range and pro shop worth the visit.

A wonderful, hilly course. Open in many areas, but very deceiving. Well maintained and fun to play. I would recommend this course to all golfers.

very scenic, every hole gives a different look. Flat , hilly, left and right doglegs. wide open on some holes, narrow tree lined other holes. lot of holes give you different options(go for it or play safe)some elevated tees, and some with uphill all the way. a lot of thought given to design.PLacement very important on some holes:eg 6(long and you may catch left slope and have to play over trees, or short and right and get better angle to pin with mid iron instead! Not manicured like some American type courses(Augusta) but more natural. a definite plus!

Very average muni course. Nothing really interesting, or really challenging, but it is playable.

Cart path only course makes for a bit of walking. Fairways are narrow and unforgiving, making for many balls that roll into danger zones. A definite "thinking" player's course that offers a challenge.
